Gain appreciation for the work of John Singer Sargent  Develop shading skills thru a self portrait value study  Work an idea in multiple media - translate drawing to cut paper "layers" - problem solving skills in determining values in colored paper  Demonstrate craftsmanship in cutting and gluing portrait.
