What kinds of problems is it creating? Activities: 1)Complete opener. Copy Homework. 2)Complete African and Colonialism handouts. 3)Begin the “Understanding Rwanda” handout and reading. Homework: Interview 3 people (1 adult and two kids) and ask them the questions from the opener. 1) What do you know about HIV/AIDS? 2) How is it transmitted? 3) What is the largest population contracting AIDS/HIV today? 4) What kids of problems is it creating? THEN: reflect on their answers – what are the similarities and differences between them?

Africa and Colonialism Imperialism: When a larger country takes over a smaller country – they can take over the government (political imperialism) the economy (economic imperialism) or the culture (cultural imperialism). Answer the questions on the handout using the color maps in your groups.
