Tessellations By Mr. Belanger

Define Isometry A reflection or composite of reflections. What’s a Glide Reflection? A reflection followed by a translation (slide) using a vector or vise versa (slide then reflect)

Example of Glide Reflection

Flow Chart of Transformations

What is a Tessellation? The term refers to pictures or tiles, mostly in the form of animals and other life forms, which cover the surface of a plane in a symmetrical way without overlapping or leaving gaps.

How does this relate to Geometry??? Tessellations are formed using various transformations and composites. Rotations Reflections Translations Combinations (Glide-Reflection)

Example (Translation or Slide)

Example (Rotation)

Examples (All Possibilities)

What Type of Isometry??? Glide Reflection

What Type of Isometry??? Rotation

What Type of Isometry??? Translation

Glide Reflection Do you see both shapes?

Master of Tessellations M.C. Escher Regarded as the 'Father' of modern tessellations. He is famous for his impossible depictions like the one on the right, but he was a master of line and wood cuts and produced many superbly crafted landscapes as well.
