Individual Instruction: Achieve 3000 (first 20 minutes of class) “What’s Cooking in Washington?” Some kids in Washington State are taking cooking lessons as part of an after-school program. What are some skills that kids can learn by taking cooking lessons? Later, the thought question will ask you to write a summary of the article. Think about which details you would (and would not) include in this summary as you read "What's Cooking in Washington?"What's Cooking in Washington?" Vocabulary Words of the Day : Intrepid (adjective) fearless and courageous Odoriferous (adjective) having, producing, or giving off an odor, or smell, especially a pleasing one Pervade (verb) to spread throughout Direct Instruction: MyAccess (45 minutes) "I would prefer even to fail with honor than to win by cheating." - Sophocles "'Tis my opinion every man cheats in his own way, and he is only honest who is not discovered." - Susannah Centlivre Recently, the idea of cheating has gotten much attention in the world of sports, entertainment, and politics. Many celebrities have been accused of gaining a competitive edge through dishonest means. While cheating has mainly been publicly condemned, there are many that feel there are times when cheating can actually be a way of making things better. They believe there is nothing wrong with making yourself a better athlete, entertainer, or politician if what you have done makes the event more entertaining, or assists the greater good. Do you feel that there are times when cheating is acceptable, or is cheating never justified? In a detailed essay, articulate your position on whether cheating is always wrong. Use facts and examples to support your position. I will monitor you guys as you write. Collaborative Station: Friday, June 1 Cheaters Gallery In honor of today’s assignment, you and your group members will be asked to make a collage of famous cheaters. They can be from the sports world, entertainment, or real life. Step 1: Search for your Cheater Perform a quick Google search for a cheater in sports, politics, in the business world, or entertainment. Here is a short list of examples: -Tiger Woods-Ashton Kutcher --Ben Johnson-Tonya Harding -Rosie Ruiz-Maradona -Floyd Landis-John Edwards Step 2: Picture Grab and Report of incident Summarize what your cheater did and what the consequences were for their actions. Send me a picture of your cheater along with your write-up so I can create a wall of infamous cheaters on the wall. If you finish early (and you will), finish your MyAccess essays.
