GRADED READERS

What kind of stories do you like?

Do you like ADVENTURE stories?

Do you like MYSTERIES ?

Do you like CLASSICS ?

Do you like CRIME stories ?

Go to the library and find your favorite! Look in the GRADED READER section.

What is a GRADED READER ?

GRADED READERS are special books for students. They help students learn vocabulary and grammar. They are interesting stories.

HCT has 3 levels of GRADED READERS. YELLOW is beginning. BLUE is intermediate. ORANGE is advanced.

 There are under 1000 different words in a BEGINNING level graded reader.

 There are between 1000 and 2000 different words in an INTERMEDIATE level graded reader.

 There are more than 2000 different words in an ADVANCED level graded reader.

Sometimes GRADED READERS have many pictures.

Sometimes there is a movie of the story. Have you seen these movies?

Some GRADED READERS are funny stories called COMEDIES. Do you think Mr Bean is funny ?

Some GRADED READERS are about real people. They are called BIOGRAPHIES.

There are GRADED READERS about SPORTS.

Some GRADED READERS are true stories. We call these NON-FICTION.

Some GRADED READERS have CDs. You can listen to the story and read it at the same time.

You can also listen in your car. Don’t lose time when you are sitting in traffic !

Your library has class sets of some GRADED READERS. Everyone in your class can read the same book at the same time. Fun !

Please, do not write in a GRADED READER. Write on yellow sticky notes instead. Many students will read the book after you finish. Nobody likes dirty books.

Come to the library and get a GRADED READER. You may keep it for 2 weeks.

We hope you will like GRADED READERS. HAPPY READING !
