 A complex sentence has one main clause and one or more subordinate clauses.  Ex. I like Toni Cade Bambara’s stories because they have good characters.  Ex. When I read her stories, I enjoy them because they are believable.

 A compound-complex sentence has two or more main clauses and at least one subordinate clause.  Ex. I read Frankenstein, which Mary Shelley wrote, and I wrote a report on it.

 Identify each sentence by writing CX for complex sentences or CC for compound-complex sentences. Write the subordinate clauses. 1. If you want to go, you have to find a ride with us. 2. I should lift weights more often, but it’s difficult when I work five days a week. 3. My Fair Lady, which is Ryan’s favorite musical, is known for the song “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” but my favorite song is “On the Street Where You Live.” 4. I hope that my brothers will come home soon. 5. With three teenagers, the Langs want a house that has at least two bathrooms. 6. I’m going to the beach on Friday, which is supposed to be a warm day, and I want you to go with me. 7. Bobby’s knees hurt after he fell, but he hobbled home without too much trouble.
