ANTARANG to “Bharat Nirman Volunteers” KANDHAMAL DISTRICT ORISSA

Antaranga : Youth Mobilization Programme in Kandhamal Antaranga (Intimate Friend) programme was launched in Kandhamal district in the aftermath of communal and ethnic violence in 2008 Aims at mobilizing youth for the purpose of building peace, communal harmony and also to channelize their energies in the process of nation development Aims to provide a platform for coordinating various efforts of government, civil society organizations and individuals who were and are involved in process of not only bringing in harmony but also sustainable, equitable and rights based development to every village in the district

Vision: Antaranga envisages harmonization of relations between various sections of society by accepting diversity not only as a way of life but also something to be celebrated and to contribute towards nation building. This is to be achieved by putting rights and dignity of individual as human being at the centre of the programme. Now this network would bridge the gap between people & administration.

Objectives: To organize and bring youth of different cultural and religious identities to a common platform. To provide the youth with a larger exposure and broader understanding on reasons of economic and social marginalization. To develop religious tolerance through wider exposure to appropriate literature and ideologies. To develop leadership skills to strengthen secular democratic principles. To analyze the status and role of girls and women and to conscientise them to take on constructive roles in nation building.

Project Structure: District level Federation:- Responsible for planning, coordinating and executing various programmes Antaranga youth clubs:- in every Gram Panchayat at the village level, all sections of society with respect to religion and caste/community are represented. Aim is to ensure that at least 03 such clubs/groups are formed in each of the GPs of the district 14 Partner NGOs:- formation of these clubs, taking up training programmes, youth leadership development, organization of youth camps etc

Few villages will be taken up as focus villages. Partner NGOs will adopt those villages & concentrate on them. Intensive training will be imparted to volunteers in each village In 6 months these volunteers will take up all the development activities of the village. It will have demonstration effect on other villages. Efforts would be made to target parameters like IMR, School drop outs, participation in MGNREGS etc. What’s to be Done?
