Virtual Reality By: Blair Butler

Virtual Reality Virtual Reality- Virtual reality is the simulation of a real or imagined environment that can be experienced visually in the three dimensions of width, height, and depth and that may additionally provide an interactive experience visually in full real-time motion with sound and possibly with tactile and other forms of feedback. a participant wears a headset that incorporates high-resolution video displays and audio speakers, immersing the participant in a computer-generated experience. The participant also wears a special glove or body suit studded with sensors that monitor all movement. Data from the participant's movements are then fed into a computer, which modifies the simulation accordingly. Virtual reality systems allow a participant to experience, navigate through, and manipulate a hypothetical area filled with imaginary structures and objects. Also known as Virtual environments Idea began way before advent of computer All history has occurred over past 40 years

Who is Jaron Lanier? Jaron Lanier is the software designer and inventor who brought high- tech thinking into reach of the ordinary people.

Different types of Virtual Reality It can be divided into: The simulation of real environments such as the interior of a building or a spaceship often with the purpose of training or education The development of an imagined environment, typically for a game or educational adventure.

Pros of Virtual Reality VR is imaginably more personal than electronic mail or instant messaging, or even a letter or a telephone call VR is a great social leveler, it may find a common ground across differences in age, culture, and linguistic orientation people will be drawn together by similar interests instead of purely by geographic location communication will be both challenging and rewarding, more effective and productive, and thus more enjoyable a tremendous opportunity for every 'connected' person to find his or her field and/or discipline after using a medium that provides total freedom of expression face-to-face communication may be found to be too confining

Cons of Virtual Reality an inescapable aspect of social life is the formation and maintenance of interpersonal relationships interaction ought not be substituted for community separates the 'haves' from the 'have-nots', a technology of Information Age Industrialized nations VR will provide a communication environment in which the dangers of deception and the benefits of creativity are amplified beyond the levels that humans currently experience in their interpersonal interactions. could lead to low self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness and insignificance, even self-destructive acts

Today, virtual reality is poised to change the way we interact with and control computers. Like the introduction of computers more than 50 years ago, its impacts are unknown About the only thing that does seem certain about VR is that it will grow and develop. And as the technology matures, it will become better, cheaper, and more accessible. Furthermore, the networks that link computers will expand, making it possible for VR to weave its way into our daily lives.
