  Son of Edward II and Isabella.  Was one of the most succesful English kings of the Middle Ages.  Was crowned at age 14, in  Founded the order of the Garter.  Declared himself rightful heir to the French throne in 1337  Started the 100 Years War  Biggest win − Battle of Crecy Edward III (1312 – 1377)

  Also known as Edward of Woodstock  Died before his father, Edward III  Remembered as a great military hero  Won notable battles with England during the 100 Years War  The first knight of the Garter  Married Joan of Gent (his cousin)  Died at Westminster Palace The Black Prince (1330 – 1376)

  struggle between England and France over succession to the French throne.  The French lawyers recognized Philip VI as king of France.  Edward III declared himself King of France.  The major reason to start the war, was England trading with Burgundy and Gascony.  The teenage girl Joan of Arc leaded the French troops to reclaim their lands.  By 1453, the coast of Calais was the only English possession left in France. The 100 Years’ War (1337 – 1453)
