ATLAS Open Days Guides Safety Training

1. Generalities: Name and phone number of the person responsible for the ATLAS visit point: Site manager: B. Di Girolamo Site Safety Responsible/ Deputy Site Manager: O. Beltramello SLIMOS : In case of safety event / question : Contact GLIMOS – or SLIMOS – safety team members will be present in situ to assist you : 3 on surface and 3 undergrounds

2. What is required for the Open Days undergrounds guides ? Access rights and safety training: ATL_USA15, ATL_UX15 for the period of the Open days ATLAS Level 4A + LS1 safety training An personal dosimeter All the general Open Days general training for guides ATLAS specific safety training for Open Days Personnel Protection equipment for the guides: Safety helmet with lamp Safety shoes CERN mobile phone (registered at the telecom lab)

3. ATLAS undergrounds Open Days Visit path The access is strictly limited to these areas.

4. Underground visit organisation: Total time of visit is 20 minutes (from the beginning to the end of the visit including the time in the elevator) Maximum time of visit in UX15 is limited to 10 minutes. 4 groups of visits : - At T0: 2 groups + 2 guides go at PX15 lift level -2 to UX15 via ULX15 At T mins: 2 groups + 2 guides are out of the lift on surface -At T mins: 2 groups + 2 guides go at PX15 lift level -1 to UX15 via UPX14 and UPX16 At T mins: 2 groups + 2 guides are out of the lift on surface etc.. Maximum number of persons in elevator is restricted to 40 persons. Maximum number of visitors per group : 12 (no exception) No pregnant women, no child below 12 years old. 1 guide per group except exceptional cases.

The guide is responsible: of the safety of the 12 persons of the group from the start to the end of the undergrounds visit. Never let any visitor alone ! Never split the group! If there is a relevant emergency situation where one or more of the visitors need to go back to surface, the guide and the entire group must follow. If you stop a visit, immediately inform the GLIMOS and register this in the safety file (you fill after the visit) to read all safety instructions to the visitors before starting the visit to record the dose of taken by the visitors during the visit. Collect an operational dosimeter at the entrance, and reset it. Inform the visitors of the collected dose at the end of the visit. Register the dose in the safety file at the exit: this is required by law ! In case of a dose higher than 0, immediately inform the GLIMOS !

The guide is responsible: to make sure that the visitors stay within the boundaries of the visit point to evacuate his visitor group following the general evacuation instructions of the ATLAS undergrounds areas in case of an emergency to make sure that they are behaving reasonably inside the ATLAS undergrounds premises Especially the guide should pay attention that visitors: do not touch accelerator or detector equipment do not remove any material from the visited areas do not eat or drink in the Supervised Radiation Area Safety team will assist you ! ( 3 safety team members undergrounds at strategic locations) In case of problem: call GLIMOS (or SLIMOS)!

The safety team is responsible: to assist the guides in case of safety or security issues control that the visit is safely conducted assist and guide the 4 visitors groups in case of an evacuation assist the GLIMOS, the Technical Coordinator and the Fire Brigade if required.
