Pastors and Churches SESSION THREE: DREAMS, SCHEMES, THEMES, CULTURE

DEFINITIONS  DREAM  SCHEME  THEME  CULTURE

DEFINITIONS  Dream: this is the goal. This is the intentional place that we are moving towards. Our end vision – where we want to be standing. It answers “what” and “why” Scheme: this is the plan. This is the blueprint for what we are building, the road map for our destination. It answers “how” Theme: this is the next step. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and the theme is what lets us know what the next step is. The dream and scheme should largely be constants, but the theme will change as we walk down the road. This answers “what next” Culture: there is no point in having a dream come true if we lose our identity. Our culture is who we are while dreaming the dreaming, working to the scheme and working out the current theme. This answers “who” Motto: This is a handy way of helping people remember the dream, scheme, theme and culture of a church. It sums up what the church is about in a pithy and punchy manner
