Italy → Basilicata Basilicata is on two separate coasts: the rocky Tyrrhenian coast on the westside and the sandy Ionic coast on the eastside. It has also got two names: The second name is Lucania, that's why we are called Lucani.
The region's economy is based on agriculture, animal -farming
Economy... and on the activities of small and medium enterprises: especially food industries ( such as oil mills, wineries, pasta factories).
Economy... On the other hand Basilicata is rich in hydrocarbons, particularly methane, in the Basento Valley, and oil, in Val d' Agri. Here there is the greatest oilfield of Europe (a production estimated in barrels, up to 10% of the national requirement).
Economy... New job perspectives have come from FIAT car factory settled in Melfi in 1993.
