AP Calculus BC The seat you pick is your assigned seat Mr. Goodrich’s Class

Luke: I won't fail you. I'm not afraid. Yoda: You will be. You will be. Calculus is much more abstract than any math you’ve done before. – To compare, algebra and geometry are 4,000 years old while calculus is 350 years old Then you’ve selected the accelerated pace – We’ll be done with most Calc AB topics by Thanksgiving – We’ll be done with 2 semesters of college calculus by Spring Break

Guiding Principle Never turn away a student who wants to learn Questions are always welcome I’m here 7:30 to 4:30 (especially starting in October) most days and always welcome a student coming by for extra help Late work is accepted, but there are penalties (reduced score) Any actions that discourage others from participating (such as mocking other students) is a punishable offense

Normally I give a lecture and then you have a lot of practice problems to do at home. Instead, your homework will be to watch a lecture videos and then we’ll do practice problems in class – Some exceptions when you have problems for HW There will be videos assigned night after a test You should write down key concepts the videos – Since your laptop is playing the video, you’ll need a paper notebook – Plus it’s hard to type: Watch the videos even if you’re absent Flipped Classroom especially

Once we get in a flow, there will be daily quizzes 2-4 questions Ideally I’d like you done in 10 minutes Always passed back the next day If absent, you will take a quiz your first day back – Your call if it’s the one you missed or the one everyone else is currently taking – You’ll have to swing by before or after to catch-up, shouldn’t take long (again, ideally 10 minutes) Daily Quizzes

HW: Watch videos on Topic A In Class: Review problems on Topic A HW: Watch videos on Topic B, study Topic A Start Class: Quiz on Topic A In Class: Review problems on Topic B HW: Watch videos on Topic C, study topic B Start Class: Quiz on Topic B then review Topic A Quiz In Class: Review problems on Topic C HW: Watch videos on Topic D, study Topic C Start Class: Quiz on Topic C then review Topic B Quiz In Class: Review problems on Topic D Standard Flow

This course builds, each chapter uses knowledge from the previous chapters Ask Questions Welcome to swing by before/after school, usually here 7:30 to 4:30, especially starting in October once the XC regular season ends Do a little Calculus everyday: – it’s too much to cram study When I give you time to work, WORK – Don’t game in class – We don’t have time for you to waste Don’t Fall Behind

Tests: 50% – Calculator and Non-calculator sections – Most will be blocks days and take up most of the block Daily Quizzes: 30% – Some calculator, some not – Labeled as a 10 or 20 points – IMLs count as a EC towards this section 3 per semester: 7:30 to 8:00, doors close at 7:45 AM 1 pt per correct answer + 1 point for participation Homework & Participation: 20% – Videos posted on website 3 Types Questions for Tests & Quizzes – AP FRQ, AP MC, Custom Open Ended (Majority) Grading System

WARNING: Grading comments may be sarcastic – Described as sassy by some – Common Examples: “Really?” “?” “Noooo… so close” FT = Follow Through: you did part A wrong but correctly used that answer to your method to find part B BA = Bad Algebra I often get wordy in comments so it may appear to be a lot of red for 2 comments Grading Comments

All quizzes, tests and work that is handed in goes in the white bin. The black bin with your class on it has graded work that’s going back to you. Only 1 student allowed out of the room for the bathroom at a time Laptops will be used very little Be respectful towards each other Classroom Procedures
