Composer of the Month-October Paul Dukas

Paul Dukas Born October 1, 1865 in Paris, France Died May 17, 1935 in Paris, France

Paul’s home country: France

Paul’s Career Paul studied piano and composition at the Paris Conservatory and won several awards for his work. He worked as a music critic and a professor. Paul was rarely happy with his compositions and destroyed most of his ideas before they could be published.

L’Apprenti Sorcier In 1897, Paul wrote a 10 minute piece for orchestra based on a poem written by Goethe. It became popular very quickly and is his best known work. In 1940, Walt Disney added to its fame by using it to create a Mickey Mouse animation for the movie Fantazia.
