Today’s challenge

Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance

CORR Targets Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance

Course Construct Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance

Course Matrix: Effective Methods for Building Relationships Module TitleOutcomesEvidence of LearningParticipant Generated Assets Module 1 Setting up a classroom Design a classroom for rigorous and relevant learning. A virtual tour of a classroom that includes consideration for seating arrangements, climate,, bulletin boards, and personal touches that foster student engagement. Either a narrated video or photo tour of a classroom with rationales for each feature Module 2 Teacher – Home Communication Develop a systematic, intentional plan for strong communication between a teacher and a student’s home. A teacher–home communication calendar with specific tasks associated with dates. Communication Samples: (e.g. Friday letters, webpage address Letters home, Open house agenda) Module 3 Beyond Management: Building Learning Relationships Identify specific areas of focus for building strong teacher student relationships. A set of designed activities and strategies for positive classroom behaviors. A comprehensive classroom management plan (Template) Module 4 Setting high expectations for teaching and learning Implement strategies that demonstrate a commitment to student success. A climate for high expectations is reinforced through all communication between students and a teacher. An interview with a student either videotaped or recorded about the value of high expectations. Module 5 Sustaining Your Professional Learning Develop an understanding of the value of setting goals and building incremental steps towards accomplishing them. A set of specific measurable goals that reflect building priorities and self directed learning. A 3 year professional growth plan (From template) Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance

Navigating in CORR Courses can be taken in any order Participants can navigate within any course to any module Within each module is a “Checklist” that provides an overview Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance

Instructional Path Through Each Module Collaborating Online for Rigor and Relevance Connect Connect stimulates interest, activates prior knowledge, and connects the teacher with the overall CORR project. Activities include polls, self reflections, videos. Always connects to R/R/R. Explore Explore provides background information that teachers can read or listen to. The section includes articles, links to web sites, video, and audio. Activities include interactive self checks. Share Share is a discussion section that starts with a question related to the topic. Teachers contribute to an online discussion and share ideas to shape each others perspective Apply Apply is the section in which teachers will apply what they have learned. These are engaging activities that allow teachers to reinforce their knowledge. Participants create a simulated, scaffolded final project. Develop Develop is the section in which teachers will create the product or project required in each respective topic. Each topic will end with something specific that teachers will develop. These are the “generated assets” that feed the course over time with examples and models.

“The CORR and the development of Quadrant D lessons helped me in my thinking about the rigor of the second language lessons that I teach on a daily basis.” - Amanda Anderson, Foreign Language Teacher, Colton High School

Now what? 56 teachers – 5 departments 16 Non – tenured 3 tenured (who are on growth plans)

Professional Growth Plan What strategies will he focus on and suggest? How does he build a common vision of what good instruction looks like? How does he build a culture around that vision rather than building silos of it?
