DEFINITION Domination by one country of the political, economic and cultural life of another country or region. CAUSES Political, Economic and Social

Imperialism Political Most of the leaders of the countries of Europe had a deep sense of competition between and among each other. Many were in need of natural resources (coal and timber) especially for industrialization.

Imperialism Economic The Industrial Revolution was the motivation for many European countries to find locations to market their products.

Imperialism Social Western Civilization had a sense of racial superiority. Europeans believed they were superior to all others. Imperial conquest and destruction of weaker races was natures way of improving the human species.
