What does Love & Logic look like at Avery Elementary? Kindergarten Curriculum Night Love & Logic Presentation August 24, 2010 Presented by the Kindergarten Teachers

Love & Logic What is Love and Logic ® ?What is Love and Logic ® ? Love and Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children which allows adults to be happier, empowered, and more skilled in their interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices. Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences.

When adults take care of themselves, they hand the problem back to the student who created it. When the student has to solve the problem, they have to think. When students have to think, they learn that decisions have consequences. When students have to deal with consequences, they learn to think. This is a process and students will improve their thinking as they mature and experience consequences. When we allow the student to deal with the consequences, they learn to think before they cause a problem. When the student learns to ask themselves, "How is my behavior going to affect me?" they have learned self control. How does it work?

Points to Consider: The importance of the relationship between the student and teacher. If issues arise, the teacher and student will work it out. Parents will be notified if the issue requires their input, assistance or attention. Not everything warrants a note home or daily communication  No news is good news!

High Expectations Your child can do it! Students will learn to take responsibility for themselves. If your child causes a problem, they will be expected to help solve it or resolve it.

Trust We seek to build a trusting relationship with you, because your trust in us is crucial as we teach your child. Communicate with your child’s teacher. Let us know if your child: Is experiencing any serious family issues

Consequences Every child is treated as an individual. Consequences are given accordingly Every situation will be treated as unique and the consequence for one may not be the same for another. We will expect the child to solve the problem, and if they can not or will not, we will solve the problem for them.

Parents’ Role Trust the process and your child’s teacher Provide open and honest communication We expect your support as we address student behaviors and consequences. Please plan to attend a Love & Logic parent night on Sept. 2 nd at Avery. Dr. Pam Spencer will present more information and techniques for your benefit.

Questions about Love & Logic Please list any questions you specifically have about Love & Logic on your Ticket out the Door. Place your Ticket out the Door in the baskets once you are dismissed to your child’s classroom. These questions will be complied, answered, and then sent out to all parents as a FAQ sheet about Love & Logic, so everyone will benefit from this L&L session.
