The IBM and CentAm subduction areas are linked by plate tectonics, in between lies the carbonate- rich equatorial Pacific--one of the two most important biogenic regimes in the oceans which serves as a “tectonic feeder” of material into these subduction zones. SedDB data is also directly applicable to paleoclimate studies using isotope data as proxies for ocean temperatures and salinity.
