Semester 1 All In 1 Darrell Ivy Period 3 Drawing And Painting

Elements Of Design & Principles Of Art Elements Of Design LINE The linear marks made with a pen or brush or the edge created when two shapes meet. SHAPE A shape is a self contained defined area of geometric or organic form. A positive shape in a painting automatically creates a negative shape. SIZE the relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that of another. TEXTURE -the surface quality of a shape - rough, smooth, soft hard glossy etc. Texture can be physical (tactile) or visual. COLOUR Also called Hue VALUE Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. Value is also called Tone Principles of Art Balance- A large shape close to the center can be balanced by a small shape close to the edge. REPETITION Repetition with variation is interesting, without variation repetition can become monotonous. CONTRAST Contrast is the juxtaposition of opposing elements opposite colors on the color wheel HARMONY Harmony in painting is the visually satisfying effect of combining similar, related elements. adjacent colors on the color wheel, similar shapes etc.

Still Life

“Still Life” In this project titled “Still Life” we had to incorporate or include images that represented a sense of motion or nature. In order to complete this artwork I started out with smaller drawings and then later transferred those pictures onto the larger piece of paper. The detailed or up close picture shows the value added to the picture and shading techniques I used.

“Handscapes” The hand drawing was also a complete success. It was the best drawing that I completed the whole semester. The amount of time and effort I put into it, impacted the results in a very positive way. My process was looking at several pictures of hands and learning how to draw based on my observation.

“Eye Fear”

The eye drawing was very interesting to me. I believe that it was a good way to express our fears to others through art. The whole communication through art project was a total success. We were allowed to communicate with the observer without writing words or letters. The process took a while. The fact that we had to complete the whole picture in ink was difficult. Instead of using pencil where if you made a mistake you can erase it, you could not make any mistakes with the ink pen.

“BAP”

“BAP” To start the BAP process there were several steps that we had to follow. We did different brainstorming activities where we had to search through magazines to find different facial features. This process, by far was the longest. The transition from using pencil and then using water colored paint was difficult. This helped us improve our skills with using different coloring utensils. The adding of the light source was a success in adding value to the picture.

Abstraction

Abstraction While creating this project, we had received a worksheet that guided us on how to complete it. We also had to include a light source. The use of different colors and shading techniques added quality to the artwork. This project did not really have a planning process, it was more of a guided assignment.

Abstraction

Abstraction The first time we used oil pastels was a difficult challenge. The difficulty of the project made it much more enjoyable. In fact I would love to repeat these three artworks later on this year. This also was more of an observational drawing. We had to include elements of art and principles of design, which made it more interesting.
