DEFINITION A wheel with a grooved rim to guide a rope or chain that runs along the groove; used to transmit or change the direction of force lift.com/gifs/pulley- img.gif

Everyday Pulleys Pulley’s are used everyday, whether you know it or not, you are using pulley’s while working out, lifting heavy loads and in car engines.

Example of an everyday pulley:Work Out Machines. While working out some of the machines have pulley’s. So u pull on the bar it lifts up weights, stimulating your muscle, and your using a simple form of a pulley.

Example of an everyday pulley: A car engine In a car engine they use many complicated pulleys that cannot be seen. So while your driving whether you know it or not, your using a pulley.

Machanical advantage of a pulley The formula for mechanical advantage of a pulley is: MA= Force of Object Force puling down.

Mechanical Advantage Question For A Pulley If Someone is trying to lift up a rock that weighs 100 Newton's, and are exerting 10 Newton's of force what is the mechanical advantage? Would it be easier to use a pulley then just lifting it yourself?

Answer for the Mechanical Advantage problem The answer is: Mechanical advantage= 10 Newtons. It is easier to use a pulley then picking up a rock with your hands.
