BPS Ethical Guidelines To be able to explain how the British Psychological Society regulates Psychological Research

The Guidelines… Starter: What do you think DRIPP stands for…think Ethical Guidelines. D - Deception R - Right to Withdraw I - Informed Consent P - Privacy P - Protection from Harm

Remember your number… Remember your number: 1 2 3 4 5

In your groups… Define your guideline; How it is ensured in research e.g. consent form; An example in Psychology where it was not carried out; What do you think the impact of this was on the study and the participants?

Share your info! Teach each other the information regarding each of the guidelines: All 1s together All 2s together All 3s together All 4s together All 5s together

Breaking the Rules! Design an experiment that breaks ALL the rules! You will be writing the procedure section so you will need to include: Method: Lab, Field or Natural Participants: Sample type, Design (independent groups, repeated measures, matched-pairs) Materials required Procedure Extension: Come up with some results Everyone else will be checking you have done so!

BPS Ethics Committee Return to your original seats… Use your ‘Peer Mark’ session to tick off each of the guidelines as they break them!

Argue… As a group, pick one Ethical Guideline and argue that it is the most important guideline. Give as many reasons as possible…
