Physical Activity Definition: includes any form of movement-whether purposeful as in exercise and sports or recreation, or incidental, as when carrying out domestic chores.

Physical Activity Two main classes of Physical Activity – Lifestyle activities Forms of physical activity that are a normal part of your daily routine or recreation and that promote good health throughout a lifetime. – Sports activities Activities that usually involve competition and are guided by a set of rules.

Lifestyle Activities Biking Basketball Raking the leafs Walking the dog Hiking Walking to the bus

Sports Activities Individual Sports: Skills orientated sports that you can do by yourself. Partner Sports: Activities carried out with a partner, such as playing tennis or racquetball. Nature Sports: Activities in which there is some interaction with one of the elements of nature, such as surfing, rock climbing, sailing.

Choosing Activities Vary the activities – Less boredom – Works different muscles and systems – Helps reduce injury – Contributes to your total health

Agility The body’s ability to control the body’s movements and change the body’s position quickly.

Reaction time The rate of movement once a person realizes the need to move.

Power The ability to use force with great speed.
