The DaVinci Panel Was Jesus Married? Did He Have Children? The Answer = Absolutely Not © 2007 Ron Williams

The DaVinci Code and Holy Blood, Holy Grail would suggest: that Jesus was openly or secretly involved with Mary Magdalene, resulting in a pregnancy, that Jesus would have had to have been married relative to the custom of the day, that the Gnostic gospels clearly indicate a married Jesus, and the “Holy Grail” of lore was not a cup but rather an indication of Mary being the vessel containing Christ’s bloodline.

Why Scripture and Historical Facts Strongly Refute the Heresy The Bible clearly indicates Jesus’ family (father, mother, half-siblings by name) in a number of Gospels. There would be no reason for this exclusion. It is falsehood that states Jesus would have to have been married. Many spiritually-minded O.T. and N.T. figures abstained from marriage (Jeremiah, John the Baptist, Paul). Paul teaches on the value of non-marriage for those able to accept such teaching. Catholicism and the priesthood is directly related to the example set by Christ (non-marriage).

Fact Indicate Many of the named apostles were not married, furthering the example set by Christ The Bible clearly defines Jesus’ relationship with women, including Mary of Magdala. She was a devoted disciple. What was significant was His role as their teacher, not their lover or husband There is no definitive text describing Mary as a prostitute. False interpretation of scripture on this area have led some to sexually link her with Jesus At his crucifixion, Jesus entrusts his mother to John. There is no mention of this same need for a wife (Mary or any other).

Facts Indicate The Gnostic and other non-recognized texts, written in the 2nd -3rd century do not indicate any sexual or marital state between Christ and anyone. As examples, Mary is: –Gospel of Thomas = barely mentioned –Gospel of Peter = a disciple –Dialogue of the Savior = a disciple –Sophia of Jesus Christ = a disciple –Pistis Sophia = an enlightened disciple –Gospel of Mary = an enlighted disciple, a favorite of Christ –Gospel of Philip = a “companion” of Christ. Interpreted correctly it does not mean wife, but rather a close friend. The disciples even question why she is allowed to be in their midst. Such a question would not be reasonable if Christ was married to her

Facts Indicate The suggestion of Mary in the DaVinci painting simply ignores the common practice of painting a more effeminate John (the custom of most Renaissance painters). The numbers don’t add up if Mary was present. There is no indication in the Biblical record or the non- recognized texts of any offspring (Sarah) or otherwise or the movement of Mary to Europe. Christ was (is) the recognized “Bridegroom” of the Church. He therefore was espoused and was (is) spoken for. He would not have taken another wife. He awaits the full union with the Church in His coming Kingdom.
