Presentation transcript:

Which Chemistry is the right one for you?  Did you successfully complete Algebra I?  Will you be majoring in a science related field in college?  Do you enjoy math?  Are you willing to work outside of class time?  Do you enjoy challenging yourself?

Concepts Covered in BOTH Honors Chemistry and Chemistry, but not at the same depth or in the same order  Matter  Chemical/physical properties and changes  Scientific Method  Atomic Structure  History of the atom  Periodicity  Metals/Non Metals/ Metalloids  pH  Reaction Types  Balancing Equations  Titrations  States of Matter  Bonding – Ionic and Covalent  Equilibrium  Kinetics

The Differences????  In Chemistry:  Very little math (calculator not needed)  Graphical analysis  Chemistry is not math based  In Honors Chemistry  We use a graphing calculator MOST days  Solve stoichiometry problems using dimensional analysis  Participate in inquiry labs  Keep a lab notebook  Interpret data from tables and graphs  Use Vernier software and equipment in the lab regularly

“Don’t Give Up the Ship!”  We will have a great year in Honors Chemistry!  Mrs. Baldessari, Mrs. Sifiligoj and Mr. Ulrich are here to help!  Complete your reading assignments  Take Cornell notes  Come prepared to class with your questions  …. And you will have a successful year in Honors Chemistry.
