Military Aircraft By: W. Abbott Lawrence

Table of Contents  How fast planes can go  What they can do  What are used on Aircraft for Combat

How fast planes can go The Airspeed oxford can go 188 mph It didn’t fly very fast because of its very heavy weight for its 53’ wingspan. The Armstrong Whitworth can fly 222 mph It only has 1,145 horsepower. The Me-262 can go 540 mph During its time it was the plane of its kind. “Falcon HTV-2, an unmanned, rocket- launched, maneuverable aircraft designed to fly at Mach 20 (about 13,000 miles per hour).”

Airspeed Oxford Armstrong Whitworth Me-262

What they can do The Fairy Swordfish is used as a combat plane. It has manually operated browning in the cockpit. The Armstrong Whitworth can go up to 21,000’ above sea level. It weighs about 19,350 pounds when it is empty. The B-17 Flying Fortress Can carry up to 6 tons (12,000 pounds) of bombs. Each bomb weighs over 1000 pounds and sit right behind the cockpit

What are used on Aircraft for Combat Browning’s or Victor K’s They are the main type of turrets used on aircraft. They can be used on two seated planes. On large combat planes they are on the front where the pilot is. Usually there on the sides behind the wings. When there on the tail there 40mm turrets. Torpedoes‘ or Bombs The torpedoes and bombs are used to take down large watercraft. There are never more than 10 torpedoes on one airplane.

Bombs Torpedoes Turrets

Conclusion Military Aircraft are very helpful when in a war because they can carry large amounts of bombs and fly fast.
