2 Chron 20:1-2 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to make war on Jehoshaphat. 2 Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, "A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Sea. It is already in Hazazon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi). NIV

First, he acknowledges God as the God of heaven, ruler of the nations, and possessor of all power and might (20:6). –Affirms that, since God has such power, none can stand against Him (20:6); then he offers evidence of it. –God had driven out…inhabitants of Canaan before Israel and given it to Abraham’s descendants (20:7). –Note: reminds God…Abraham was “Your friend forever” (20:7); so…Abraham’s descendants were His friends too!

And due to God’s power, Israel had lived in the land and built a sanctuary (dwelling) for God’s name there (20:8). –The sanctuary that testifies to God's promise to hear his people's prayers and save them (v:9, a clear reference to the conditions envisioned in Solomon's dedication prayer in 2 Chron 6:14–42). –We are in trouble, You will hear us and deliver us! (v:9)

Note carefully Jehoshaphat’s final request (20:12)! This statement indicates several impressive admissions: –Totally powerless to defend; have no answers (solutions); don’t know what to do; are dependent people! –Demonstrates absolute and total confidence in God: looking to Jehovah for the answers; depending on Him. 2 Chron 20:13 All Judah was standing before the LORD, with their infants, their wives and their children.

Do we pray like that? Do we openly acknowledge Jehovah God as the ruler of all nations, and so powerful (20:6)? Do we trust God like that (20:12)? Do we openly admit that we are powerless without Him? Are we humble enough to admit: we don’t know how to solve our problems; we don’t know what to do? Are we humble enough to confess that we are dependant people, totally dependent on God for solutions? Do we trust enough to actually give up our efforts…turn our eyes totally towards God for the answers? 2 Chron 20:13 All Judah was standing before the LORD, with their infants, their wives and their children.

Then in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel "Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the LORD to you, ' Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's. 2 Chron 20:14-15 Then in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite of the sons of Asaph; 15 and he said, "Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the LORD to you, ' Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's.

Jehoshaphat served the exact same God we serve today! And just as God proved that Jehoshaphat’s faith was well placed in Him, so also He can and will prove it to us! God can and will solve our problems today…especially those encountered by this church…if we will but trust Him! No, there will not be a miraculous victory, but there can and will be an obvious victory…a victory that will be from God! Humility, Trust, Faith, Hope & Love in Jehovah
