Ms. Roule

 As a jazz trumpeter and a singer louis armstrong asserted a level of individuality in musical interpretation recomposition and embellishment far more radical than any that had came before in western music

 Bellringer  Story boards due!  Concept/Text Processing Map – Louis Armstrong passage

 A tool for predicting, summarizing and connecting to what you read  Just like the 3-Pass process helped you prepare for the ACT English test, the Concept Map will help you tackle ACT Reading

 Read the first paragraph, and make a prediction about the main idea of the passage based on what you see in the first paragraph ONLY!

 Read the passage on Louis Armstrong.  As you read:  CIRCLE the thesis statement (the main argument)  UNDERLINE the topic sentences (main ideas) in each paragraph  UNDERLINE/CIRCLE any other details (names, dates, etc.) that you think are important to know

 Now that you have read the passage, go back to the concept map and fill in the Main Idea and Supporting Detail boxes.  MAKE SURE the supporting details actually point back to the main idea

 In the three boxes in the middle of your Concept Map, track Armstrong’s career development (Paragraphs 2, 3, and 5)  (Summarize it in sequential order!)

 In my own words, this passage taught me…  The main idea/concept reminds me of…because…

 Now that you have processed the information in the Louis Armstrong passage, go back to the questions after the passage.  Circle the letter of the correct answer.  TURN IN your CONCEPT MAP as well as the ANNOTATED PASSAGE/QUESTIONS
