Work plan On September 2008 the Steering Committee [1] decided to split the project in 2 main activities: [1] 3 field studies the establishment of an exchange group between Italian cities [1][1] Stefano Padovano (Regione Liguria), Donatella Ferrari (Provincia di La Spezia), Samanta Arsani, Rossella Selmini, Stefania Arrivabene (FISU bureau)

The field studies 3 topics: drug use and behaviours on public spaces during nightlife and entertainment (headed by Regione Liguria); main research tool: observation institutional partnership on drugs monitoring at local level (headed by Comune and Provincia of La Spezia); main research tool: crossed data analysis  preliminary phases are ongoing drug use and antisocial behaviour among young people in Bologna (headed by RER)

Regione Emilia Romagna’s field study the main purpose is to investigate the link between social and cultural background of young people and antisocial behaviour, with a special focus on deviant actions research tool: self reported survey in secondary schools (17-18 years old students)

Questionnaires’ contents social background: information on family and cultural origins general information on personality (assessment on satisfaction for their lifestyle, politics, religion, expenditure) peers frequentation at school and during the spare time assessment on antisocial behaviours: alcohol and drugs use and misuse, sexual behaviour at risk, damage on public space, gender, robbery, corruption… spare time: duty, leisure and the meaning of having fun experience of antisocial behaviours (focus on alcohol and drugs use)

Work progress the questionnaire is on line, almost ready to be given to students. the presentation of the survey to schools is ongoing: we are asking to involve the last two classrooms (total students, 26 kinds of schools). Some schools are ready to participate now (by the end of the school year - june), some others will start in September The conclusion of the survey is scheduled by the end of the year.

Deliverables Young people in Bologna (RER) Monitoring tools (La Spezia) User and leisure (Regione Liguria)

Exchange group between cities the group involves 10 Italian cities represented by workers, politicians and experts of different fields concerning urban safety and social/health services purpose: exchange of best practices. Each meeting deals with the presentation of successful or innovating local policy to promote urban safety and to prevent risky behaviours. The presentation is followed by a discussion between the others member of the group with the stimulation of a field expert.

Work progress 3 meetings took place 3 meetings are scheduled September 08  launch meeting with the definition of participants, proposal for cases’ presentation; validation of the proposed agenda; November 08: on damage reduction strategies and street units; presentations: Bologna (street unit service) January 09: local policies and the relation between drug abuse and leisure time; presentations: Ravenna (prevention among young people and disco’s attendants) and Livorno (field work on drug’s trend by night; local monitoring)
