BIT3024 /3034 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING 2nd BRIEFING 08th January 2014

Guidelines Preliminary This Industrial Training (BIT3024/34) programme is a core subject Introduced to the students undertaking the Bachelors of Business Administration (Honours), Bachelor of Economics (Honours), and Bachelor of Knowledge Management (Honours) programmes

Guidelines (…cont) Eligibility The students should have completed at least 65 credit hours (for BIT3034) or 75 credit hours (for BIT3024) before the commencement of Industrial Training programme. He/She should come back to MMU to complete advanced subjects after the training.

Guidelines (…cont) Duration The Industrial Training programme is for a period of continuous 12 weeks (BIT3034) or 15 weeks (BIT3024) throughout Trimester 3 of Gamma (third) academic year in any companies operating within or outside Malaysia in exceptional cases (hereinafter referred to as “the employer”) which is related to the student’s field of study.

Guidelines (…cont) Training Students shall report for duty in accordance to the rules of the employer. Students must adhere to, among others, the dress code, working hours and working practices of the employer. Students are also expected to uphold the image of MMU at all times.

Guidelines (…cont) Supervision During the training, every student shall be supervised by a supervisor appointed by the employer (hereinafter referred to as “the external supervisor”). Every student shall also be assigned to a faculty academic of MMU (hereinafter referred to as “MMU supervisor”) who shall supervise and monitor the student’s performance. It is the responsibility of the MMU supervisor and the student to discuss and correspond either in the form of email, telephone and personal visit during the Industrial Training.

Guidelines (…cont) Evaluation by MMU Supervisor The MMU supervisor shall visit the student at least once during the period of Industrial Training. The MMU supervisor shall obtain the feedback from the external supervisor and student during the visit and also shall evaluate the student’s performance.

Guidelines (…cont) Evaluation by Employer At the end of training, the employer (external supervisor) shall evaluate the performance of the student and send the Employer’s Evaluation Form to the MMU supervisor assigned for the student in a sealed envelop or via fax/e-mail.

Guidelines (…cont) PROGRESSIVE REPORTS The student shall prepare 2 progressive reports of Industrial Training Progressive Report 1 is due on April 09, 2014 before 5 p.m Progressive Report 2 is due on May 21, 2014 before 5 p.m The reports must be emailed to the respective MMU’s supervisor

Guidelines (…cont) Final Report of Industrial Training The student shall prepare the Final Report of Industrial Training and submit to his/her MMU supervisor latest by May 23, 2014 before 5 p.m. for marking.

Guidelines (…cont) The student is given FAIL grade, if Grading Scheme The assessment of Industrial Training shall comprise the following components: Progressive Report 1 10% Progressive Report 2 10% Final Report 40% Employer’s Evaluation 20% Lecturer’s Evaluation during Industrial Visit 20% Total 100% The student is given FAIL grade, if <10% of employer evaluation; <10% of lecturer’s evaluation; or <50% of total marks

MISCELLANEOUS Miscellaneous Students shall ensure that they are fully covered by insurance (personal accident) throughout the period of Industrial Training.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE Should a student quit the program after its commencement, he/she is NOT ALLOWED to register for any subjects offered in Tri 3, 2013/14. Has to apply for “Leave of Absence” for that semester, subject to Dean’s approval. Appeal will be looked into on case by case basis

Letter of Indemnity A promise of payment in case of any damage/loss MMU DOES NOT issue Letter of Indemnity to any company DO NOT accept any offer for a trainee post that requires a letter of indemnity from MMU

Conflict of Interest It is the responsibility of the student to declare to MMU should he/she engage in a company that belongs to his/her family. If the student fails to do so and later MMU finds out about it, such student will have to face the consequence.

DOCUMENTATIONS & UPDATES Download all relevant documentations from FOB’s website Regularly check the bulletin board/MMLS-e-mail during the training period for any announcements and updates

Other matters Registration for this course is done by the student via online course registration; make sure you have seen your AA for the assessment. Will be exempted from AA in Tri 1 12/13 only No other courses allowed to be registered for Tri 3 13/14 (cyber squatting)

Other matters Make sure you read the available guidelines of preparing reports carefully. Address MMU supervisor properly in any correspondence, e.g. Dear Sir/Madam (with greetings). Make sure you reply the call made by MMU supervisor in case you miss it. For overseas interns, kindly send also a softcopy of your final report to avoid the possible late delivery of your hardcopy.
