Welcome to the School Year ! Mrs. Maderal Kindergarten

Student Folders  Please check student folders on a daily basis.  I highly encourage communication via the student folder. Any questions or concerns you may have, please feel free to write a note and send it in your child’s folder.  Please place anything that needs to be sent to school (home learning, notes, money, forms, etc.) under the side that reads, “return to school.”

Conferences  Parent conferences will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by appointment only.  No informal conferences will be conducted before or after school outside of the classroom.

Parent/Student Portal  Parents and students have access to the grade book and assignments given on a weekly basis.  You can access the portal through the following website:  See Ms. Perez for your pin.

Home-Learning Policy 1. Home-learning is given every Monday (unless otherwise noted) and must be returned the following Monday (unless otherwise noted)—PLACE HOME-LEARNING INSIDE THE STUDENT FOLDER. 3. Home-learning must be completed entirely, as neat as possible, in pencil, and in your child’s own handwriting in order to receive full credit. 3. Students must read for 30 minutes every night. 4. Students will receive a home-learning participation grade at the end of each nine weeks.

Home-Learning Cont….. 5. If a student is absent, they are still responsible for completing the home-learning for that week. 6. If home-learning is lost, please see me—I usually keep one extra copy that you may make a copy of. 7. Home-learning MUST be done completely (meaning nothing must be left blank). If something is not understood, there still needs to be proof that the student at least tried, otherwise the home-learning is considered incomplete. ***Make sure you sign the front portion of the homelearning sheet and remember to read the “reminder” section.***

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures  8:30 am – 2:00 pm  Parents who enter the classroom in the morning, must depart the classroom by 8:20 am.  Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 8:30 am.  Tardy passes must be picked up in the office prior to entering the classroom.  At dismissal time, parents must sign the sign-out sheet before I am able to release any student.

Absences  Students are to bring a note stating:  Name of student  Date of absence  Reason for absence This must be sent to school in order for the absence to be considered excused.

Make-Up Policy  When a student is absent and it is EXCUSED, I will save any missed work that the student must complete so that he/she does not fall behind.  If I place make-up work inside the student folder, please help your child complete it and return it back to school by the end of that school week.

 Projects should always be done in the student’s handwriting… not typed and printed.  Projects are intended for the students but parent involvement is encouraged.  Late projects will only be accepted for a lower grade. Projects

Tests  Testing days vary depending on material covered in class.  Students are tested on material that is covered throughout the entire week.

Field Trips  Field trips are a privilege.  Parents must be cleared prior to chaperoning a field trip and will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.  Parents receive volunteer hours for participating on field trips.

SAT  Testing Dates: April 7 – 8  One day Math and one day Reading  Math is read orally to them  They will read the reading part on their own.  The test is NOT timed !

Volunteer Hours  Must complete a total of 30 volunteer hours per family.  Must be cleared by the county and school, meaning finger printing and ID# must be given in order to attend in-class/school activities or functions.  If possible, please turn in a receipt with all donations.  $5.00 – 1 Hour  Gift cards will not be accepted this year  Check out the “Lend-A-Hand” items.
