Innovation Scout Scheme June 2015 AHSN NENC Stakeholder Engagement Event

What is Innovation? Thinking differently Identifying unmet needs Applying new and better solutions to problems A new technology A new device An improved service Change that makes a positive difference Transformative to patient care and experience

The Challenge How to embed a culture of innovation? Innovation not the responsibility of one person Everyone has potential to be innovative but need to know how to take the next steps It can be difficult to unearth best practice *Smith et al (2008) Factors influencing an organisation's ability to manage innovation: A structured literature review and conceptual model, International Journal of Innovation Management, 12(4): “Organisational culture is a major factor affecting the speed and frequency of innovation”*

Innovation Scout Scheme Coordinated by AHSN NENC Specialist IP support from NHS Innovations North AHSN NENC funded 52 Innovation Scouts in NHS organisations across the region To identify the ‘go to’ person in each organisation for innovation To upskill healthcare professionals to identify and promote innovation To connect people from different organisations to help find solutions

Connecting people

Next Steps Developing practical resources More Scouts CCGs and primary care
