Energy is said to be the ability to do work. That means the ability to make something happen. By “happen” it means to make things move or change condition.
Forms of Energy. Nature of Energy Energy is the ability to do work. If an object or organism does work, then it uses energy. Work is the use of a force.

What is Energy? The ability to do work and transfer heat Types of Energy Kinetic- Energy in motion Potential- Stored energy due to the position of the object

Types of Kinetic Energy Electric energy- flow of charged particles Mechanical Energy- used to move or lift matter Light Energy- energy produced by sunlight Thermal energy- motion of particles in matter

Electrical Energy When electrons are flowing through a wire or through hundreds of feet of air, it is because they are being "pushed" through a distance. While the electrons are moving they contain kinetic energy.

Mechanical Energy In order to get these various objects spinning or rolling, a force has to be exerted. Work is a force acting through a distance, or an energy transfer process.

Light Energy Includes visible light, x-rays gamma rays, and radio waves. The electromagnetic spectrum—a continuous range of energy

Thermal Energy Heat is the measure of how fast particles move. The force that propels particles to move is known as kinetic energy

Types of Potential Energy Chemical Energy is stored in the chemical bonds holding matter such as coal or oil together. Nuclear Energy: is the energy stored in the nuclei of atoms

Nuclear Energy Energy is stored within the nuclei of an atom. This energy stored within the atom is referred to as potential energy. Example: -Nuclear fission -Nuclear fusion

Chemical Energy Energy that is stored in molecular bonds, the forces that hold molecules together. So releasing chemical energy must mean the energy is finally free from its molecular bonds. Example- carbohydrate molecules
