W HY IS L AB S AFETY I MPORTANT ?

1. Always listen to and follow the instructions given by your teacher. Be sure you understand and follow the procedures given by the teacher at all times.

2. Know the location and use of safety equipment in the classroom. Be familiar with fire exit procedures for leaving the school in case of an emergency.

3. Use all science and technology materials, tools, and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.

Note: Mrs. P. Will NOT turn into a big green ugly monster!! 4. Report any spills or accidents to the teacher immediately. Report any damaged or defective equipment or materials to the teacher immediately.

5. Wear eye protection when required.

6. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after working on an activity involving chemicals, plants, animals and/or soils.

7. Use extreme caution when heating substances. Never leave anything unattended that is being heated. Wear eye protection and tie back long hair and loose clothing when heating materials. Heating activities should be conducted on flat, level surfaces. Hot plates should be used as the heat source for all heat activities.

8. Do not smell or taste substances unless you are told to do so by the teacher.

9. Never eat or drink in an area where chemicals have been used.

10. Clean your working area before leaving. Follow clean up directions given by the teacher.
