Tomb of the Mahdi After Mahdi died in 1885, is body was incased in a silver domed mosque in Sudan. It destroyed by Kitchener in His body was burned and sent down the river. Sugar Hill Loaf Several miles outside Kassala are the 'sugar- loaf' hills, known as the jebels. They can be seen on the horizon from the city and are the home to a tribe of baboons, which come down from the hills at sunset to drink at a nearby village well. Jewell Marra Mountains This Sudanese mountain range is covered by the second-highest mountain in Sudan. Known as Jebel Marra it is an extinct volcano which just over half a mile high in height.
