FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTIONS   Overview.   Frequency Distribution Tables.   Frequency Distribution Graphs.   The shape of a Frequency Distribution.

Overview TABLE 2.1 DAY 2 SCORES DAY 1 SCORES

Overview   DEFINTION:   A frequency distribution is an organized tabulation of the number of individuals Located in each category on the scale of measurement.

Frequency Distribution Tables FX

Obtaining ∑ x from a Frequency Distribution Table.   ƒXƒX ƒ X (The two 10s total 20 ) (The five 9s total 45) 4559 (The seven 8s total 56) 5678 (The three 7s total 21) 2137 (The two 6s total 12) 1226 (There are no 5s ) 005 ( The one 4 totals 4) 414 ∑ ƒ X=158

Proportion and percentages   Proportion = р=ƒ / Ν   Percentage = р(100) = ƒ / Ν (100)

Proportion and percentages   % = P(100) P = ƒ /N ƒ X 10%2/20=0, %5/20=0, %7/20=0, %3/20=0, %2/20=0,1026 0%0/20=005 5%1/20=0,0514

Histograms   DIFINITION:   For a histograms vertical bars are drawn above each score so that   1-The height of the bar correspond to the frequency.   2-The width of the bar extends to the real limits of the score.

Histograms   An example of a frequency distribution histogram.

Bar Graphs   For a bar graphs, a vertical bar is draw above each score ( or category ) so that   1- The height of the bar correspond to frequency.   2- There is a space separating each bar from the next.

Bar Graphs   An example of a frequency distribution Bar graph.

Frequency Distribution Polygons   DIFINTION:   In a frequency distribution polygon, a single dot is draw above score so that   The dot is center above the score.   The height ( vertical position ) of the dot corresponds to the frequency.

Frequency Distribution Polygons   An example of a frequency distribution polygons.

The shape of a Frequency Distribution   DEFINTION:   In a symmetrical distribution, it is possible to draw a vertical line through the middle so that one side of the distribution is a mirror image of the other.   In a skewed distribution, the scores tend to pile up toward one end of scale and taper off gradually at the other end
