Presentation transcript:

Great Migration Ice Age Between 2 million-year and 10,000 years ago, Earth experienced long periods of cold climate, known as the Ice Age. During each period, average temperature in most parts of the world fell below freezing and massive glaciers covered large portions of Europe, Asia, and North America and the ice fields of Antarctica stretched over wide regions in the southern hemisphere.

As glaciers formed during the Ice Age, Land Bridges appeared which allowed prehistoric man to migrate into new areas. Migration- movement from one place to the next

Hominid Migration Animation

Formation of Land Bridges During the Ice Age, the ocean level dropped 300 ft., as a result, exposing some parts of the ocean floor. WHAT caused the land bridge to open?

Formation of Land Bridges 1. Asia to North America (known as the Beringia) 2. Japan to the mainland of Korea 3.Great Britain and Ireland to Western Europe 4. Malay Peninsula through the Indonesian Islands almost to Australia WHERE were land Bridges located?

Formation of Land Bridges To find FOOD! WHY did prehistoric man cross the land bridge?
