Icebreaker

How can the Library help? Vicki & Hilda

Academic Liaison Team

How it works Library budgets Books Journals Databases Research Enhancement Funds Morebooks Inter Library Loans Reading Lists Number of copies/short loans

Student Library Survey (November 2013) Open Main Library longer on weekend: DONE Print books > e-journals > e-books > print journals ¾ didn’t know about Issues: Power sockets Availability of learning resources Availability of study spaces & seat hogging

What you can help with Advise and provide feedback on library services e.g. circulation policies (fines and loan periods) Promote the resources specific to your subject area Promote library skills sessions or help us organise sessions for students in your School Help us improve NSS survey results – what does question 16 really mean? You Said We Did – we do listen and we do answer – help us use our communication channels to get the message out

Mindreading? Importance of feedback Do not wait till SSCC or the end of semester – immediately!

Known problems Library not big enough Library temperature Noise and zoning issues Lack of awareness of services Café issues Seat hogging

Small Group Discussion 1. What would you like to achieve from being a Library Rep? 2. How can you help in letting us know about problems?

Action Plan: What do I do? Talk to lectures about online reading lists and getting them well in advance (think of Semester 2). Organize School-specific Library skills session ( Publicize alternative study library loan. …?
