Humidity Specific Humidity = The actual amount of water vapor in the air at a given time and place. Relative Humidity = How near the air is to its maximum.
Saturation = filled to capacity

Weather and Climate Unit Vocabulary. Weather Short-term conditions.
Humidity. Remember: Water takes longer to warm and cool because of its high heat capacity. Lots of solar energy is needed to change the state of water!
What does the Meteorologist Really Mean???
Water in the Atmosphere. States of Matter Water vapor – gaseous form (0 to 4% by volume) Water – rain, dew, clouds, fog Ice – snow, hail, clouds.
Relative Humidity. Humidity  the measure of the amount of water in the air  high humidity =lots of moisture in the air.

Describes the condition of the atmosphere such as temperature, cloud cover, wind speed, and rainfall.
Humidity The amount of water vapor in the air.. Expressed two ways Relative Humidity Dew Point.
Essential Question: How does WATER in the atmosphere affect weather and climate? What is the most important gas in the atmosphere for weather? What is.
Dew Point The temperature that the air needs to be cooled to reach saturation (100% humidity) Cooling the air below the dew point causes the water vapor.
What Causes Weather?. Weather Scientists gather information about: Temperature Water vapor Wind Air pressure.
Aim: How is precipitation related to relative humidity? Topic: Unit 6 Meteorology Main Idea: Moisture.
Definition: Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place. Weather is the result of heat from the sun and earth's air and water.

Our School Weather Station By Luke Davison Noah Morton Wyatt Hall and Hayden Current

Our Weather Station

Wind The anemometer measures wind speed and direction. The anemometer sends its information to the console, which calculates a ten minute average wind speed and ten minute dominant direction.

Temperature The Integrated Sensor Suite measures outside temperature, while the console measures the temperature inside.

Wind Chill Wind Chill takes into account how the speed of the wind affects our perception of the air temperature.

Heat Index The heat index uses the temperature and relative humidity to determine how hot the air actually “ Feels.’’

Humidity Humidity itself simply refers to the amount of water vapor in the air. The station measures ratio of the airs water vapor content to its capacity. This is called relative humidity.

Dew Point Dew point is the temperature to which the air must be cooled for saturation (100% relative humidity ) to occur.

Rain Our school weather station tracks : “Rain storm”, “Daily rain”, “Monthly rain”, and “Yearly rain.”
