10 Facts about Earth Day us/2014/04/10-facts-about-earth-day us/2014/04/10-facts-about-earth-day  The first celebration of Earth Day took place on April 22,  Earth Day was founded by U.S. senator Gaylord Nelson.  In 2009, The United Nations renamed Earth Day “ International Mother Earth Day.”  Homes and Cars account for half of all American greenhouse gas emissions.  Earth Day originated in the United States.
