Staying in the Game

A Successful Teacher Is: Ready The Work Is Ready The Room Is Ready The Teacher Is Ready Harry Wong

Seven things students want to know on the first day. Am I in the right room? Where am I supposed to sit? Who is the teacher as a person? Will the teacher treat me as a human being? What are the rules in this classroom? What will I be doing this year? How will I be graded? Harry Wong

The three most important student behaviors that must be taught the first day of school are these: 1. Discipline 2. Procedures 3. Routines

Harry K. Wong and his wife, Rosemary T. Wong They are both former award- winning classroom teachers who share with the profession through a variety of media what it takes to be an effective teacher.

Keys to Becoming an Unhurried Woman: 1.Prioritize 2.Simplify (The more stuff you have, the more you worry.) 3.Get Organized

Capturing Kids’ Hearts “If you have a child’s heart, you have his head.”™ - Flip Flippen Truly remarkable outcomes are possible in a classroom where trust, respect, and caring relationships flourish. But creating such an environment is a tremendous challenge. Capturing Kids' Hearts is a 3-day off-site learning experience that provides tools for administrators, faculty and staff to build positive, productive, trusting relationships — among themselves and with their students. These processes can transform the classroom and campus environment, paving the way for high performance.

Flip Flippen Flip Flippen is a man on an important mission: “To build relationships and processes that bring out the best in people.” He has applied this lofty goal to his work with hundreds of thousands of individuals, including educators, K-12 students, executives, and athletes. With an emphasis on changing behaviors and attitudes that stand in the way of success, he has helped numerous organizations – from small rural school districts to Fortune 500 companies – achieve amazing improvement in leadership, performance, productivity, and trust.

Final Thoughts: I know it is hard, but try to remind yourself of the bigger picture. While getting caught up in your daily struggles, try to remember that we really do not know where these kids have been or what they have been through. I always pray for strength and patience. Ask that sometime down this long road, like we were shown, that you can see your “aha” moment and that this “game” really is worth “playing”. Kim Sewell & Casey Hancock
