Robot Competitions & Research Today: Competitions and Research Monday: IME/CS Quiz Wednesday: –Project Trouble Shooting Day –Discussion of Presentations John-Hopkins Robotic Surgery Competition The challenge is to carry out a simulated surgery. Students have to design, build, and program a robot to find a tumor in the body and place a needle into it.

Robot Competitions: fun & research Some competitions are fun, awards, and accolades Some competitions help push the boundaries of research

IEEE Region 5 Competition IEEE Sponsored competition Team of ECE and CS students Objective changes each year

Beyond Botball KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) Objective changes every year

AAAI Competitions American Association of Artificial Intelligence Changes as challenges are met

AAAI USAR Competition” RoboCup Rescue

AAAI Scavenger Hunt Robots search the conference hotel area for a checklist of given objects such as people or information located at specific locations or at a specific time. This task will require robots to navigate and map a dynamic area with moving objects/people in order to acquire objects to satisfy the checklist.

Larger Events DARPA Grand Challenge –1/3 of all military vehicles will be autonomous by AAAI Grand Challenge –Robot Conference Presenter RoboCup: World Robot Soccer
