Overview of the Program Prioritization Process Task Force Representatives K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference October 18, 2012

Purpose … to determine how the public prioritizes current, ongoing, and potential KSRE program topics and use the results when developing 2013 – 14 Action Plans. A task force representing each of the 11 Program Focus Teams (PFT) was convened, including county, district, and campus based personnel. The task force was charged with leading this effort in collaboration with the Assistant Directors. 2

What actions will be taken? State-wide survey – Gather feedback on issues relevant to each PFT – Feedback may supplement other information – Completed electronically; also available hard-copy – Three main audiences: Program Development Committees (PDCs) Local residents (PDC recommended) less familiar w/ KSRE Random sample of KS residents – 1 ranking of 6 items/issues for each PFT (11 questions) – 1 open-ended follow-up to each ranking question 3

What additional actions may be taken by each PFT? Some PFTs may choose to: – Distribute state-wide survey to specific groups – Conduct focus groups – Engage in other efforts to gain more information In the end, PFTs will develop updated action plans based upon the information they possess. 4

What is the timeline? Oct. 2012: Overview process at Annual Conference Dec to Mar. 2013: Conduct and Analyze Survey Apr. 2013: PFTs discuss results and how to update action plans during Spring Action Conference Aug. 2013: Updated action plans are submitted by PFTs Oct. 2013: Updated local action plans are submitted by agents 5

How will this be accomplished? Who will be involved? Asking agents to meet w/ local extension boards and PDCs to explain process to them – Support information, checklists, etc. are online Each PDC or Council member will complete survey PDC members will be asked to have survey completed by at least 5 local residents – Representative participation should be pursued Surveys need to be completed by Mar. 1,
