fighting the good fight

1 Timothy 2:1-7 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.

Prayer for all (vs 1-2) Without distinction Particularly for those in authority (cf Romans 13:1-7) So that our lives may be marked by peace, quiet, godliness and holiness Reflection: the christian view of authority the place of prayer in the church

Because God wants all to be saved (vs 3-6) Pleasing God Salvation = ‘a knowledge of the truth’ One God, one mediator – Christ Jesus Who gave himself a ransom (cf Mark 10:45) This has been witnessed Reflection: Is this ‘truth’ true? For everyone?

A true and faithful teacher (vs 7) For this purpose Herald, apostle, teacher To the Gentiles True and Faithful Reflection: Are we true and faithful teachers?
