The Battle of Waterloo The end of the First French Empire

The Battle of Waterloo was a combat between the French army, under the orders of Napoleon, and the British, the German and the Netherlands armies, led by The Duke of Wellington. It was the last great battle of Napoleon because, apart from being defeated, he was banished.

Napoleon was proclaimed the French emperor on 18 May, Only four years later he was fighting too many battles against all Europe. Finaly, Allied forces took Paris and Napoleon was banished to the Elba’s Island. While all this happened, a new king was proclaimed.

In 1815, Napoleon escaped from Elba’s Island and he landed on the French coast. His followers were increasing when people knew he was in France. Napoleon got a powerful army, and with it, he took France again. Allied forces had planned to invade France soon. Then Britain armies kept Napoleon cornered in France. But Napoleon defeated them, and he and his army, went to Waterloo.

Napoleon arrived in Waterloo. There Allied forces were waiting for them. Napoleon’s army was lower than theirs, but Napoleon hoped that he could defeat. Napoleon and his army were defeated and he lost his hopes to return to power.

Napoleon tried to flee to America on a boat but British forces saw him and he was arrested. Napoleon was banished again to an African remote island where he spent the last six years on his life.
