Napoleon crowns himself emperor, Napoleon I

At Napoleons peak, France dominated almost all of Europe Great Britain and Russia were Napoleon’s two main enemies

The Fall of Napoleon Step 1: Blockade against Britain where no one was supposed to sell goods to them, no one followed it. Smugglers still got through, it was ineffective and hurt France’s economy. Step 2: Napoleon made his brother king of Spain. This angered the Spanish people. Rebel fighters known as guerrillas attacked French soldiers. Napoleon lost about 300,000 soldiers.

3. June 23, Napoleon tried to invade Russia because they kept selling grain to Britain. Russians retreated using the scorched earth policy. French army made it to Moscow, Sept. 14, but there was nothing there. Napoleon waited for 5 weeks for some type of peace offer, but it never came. It is now the middle of October and Napoleon decides to turn back. It’s November and the snow is falling, his soldiers are freezing and starving. Then they are constantly being attacked by Russian raiders that are merciless. Napoleons Grand Army was devastated. 4. Britain, Russia, Prussia, Austria and Sweden join forces in the Grand Alliance. Napoleon was exiled to Elba by Alexander I in a treaty, because they had reached the French capital.

5. Napoleon was down, but not out. He escaped from Elba and returned to France where Louis XVIII, the brother of Louis XVI was ruling. Napoleon rallied the people, Louis fled, Napoleon took power. 6. European leaders were afraid that Napoleon would be back to his old tricks again so they sent troops under the Duke of Wellington towards France. June 18, 1815, Napoleon attacked, called the Battle of Waterloo. The Prussians joined the British and defeated Napoleon. He was exiled again, this time to Helena. He died in 1821 of a stomach ailment. The End
