Chanoyu A Brief History and Description of the Japanese Tea Ceremony

Chanoyu lit, “hot water for tea” refers to the tea ceremony Chadō or Sadō lit, “the way of tea” refers to the whole culture of tea, its philosophies and practices Words for Tea

History of Chanoyu Eisai ( ) father of tea” founder of Zen Buddhism in Japan brought powdered tea from China to Japan in 1191 interested in the health benefits of tea, promoting it as “a remedy for all disorders” (Tanaka 29)
