Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY Supplies Planner (You can purchase one in the student store or an office supply store). 3 Prong Binder into which all homework and class work will be kept. 150 sheet notebook Binder dividers Blue or black ink pens or pencils. No other colors Package of college ruled lose leaf notebook paper Stapler Simple calculators are recommended, as are rulers and color pencils.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY COURSE DESCRIPTION Biology is a required course at RCHS that will serve as the foundation to our science program. Our biology course integrates biology, chemistry, and physics; this will give them a strong foundation of all the sciences. The goal of the course is to provide students with scientific principles, concepts and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. The class is lab and activity oriented in order to provide a hands-on learning experience to accompany the lectures and readings.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY GRADING Class assignments, worksheets laboratory and homework 1. We do not turn in work on a daily basis, but there is something due almost every day 2. All complete homework/assignments will receive a stamp at the beginning of the class period for being complete and on time and is worth 2 points. Homework check sheets will be collected at the end of the unit. 3. LATE homework check-up sheets will receive 50% credit for each day late. 4. All completed assignments notes and handouts, must be kept for the entire semester. Students’ science notebooks will be spot checked on a regular basis. 5. Lost work is YOUR responsibility and will not receive credit.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY GRADING –Interactive Notebook—Requires students to use creative ways to express scientific concepts. Creativity Completeness Neatness Accuracy

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY GRADING –Projects—Several projects will be assigned throughout the school semester. These projects may be individual and/or group projects. Grading rubrics will be provided for each project. Please note that students are allowed to select their own groups.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY GRADING –What to look for: –Unit Tests Unit tests will be given at the end of each unit or chapter of study Chapter/unit test scores will recorded on the homework check up sheet, along with overall grade. Parent signatures are required on these sheets. STUDENTS SHOULD BE REVIEWING EVERY NIGHT!!

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY PLEASE NOTE I SEND PROGRESS REPORTS HOME ON A REGULAR BASIS—EVERY 3 TO 4 WEEKS. THESE PROGRESS REPORTS SHOULD BE SIGNED BY YOU AND RETURNED TO SCHOOL IF YOU DO NOT GET ONE PLEASE ASK YOUR SON/DAUGHTER OR CONTACT ME.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY Late Work –Simply, late work will not be accepted! Extra Credit –No Extra Credit Will Be Given.

Ms. Brown’s BIOLOGY Grading is based on the following: Homework/class work/lab work 30% Assessments (ex. projects, notebooks, portfolios, white board reviews, tests and quizzes, labs, lab practical, etc.) 50% Participation 10% Final exam 10% This class uses a weighted scale.
