The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe Why was Mr. Tumnus assigned the task by the White Witch of watching for human children entering Narnia? She wanted to close the portal between the worlds. She wanted to make a deal with the children so they would never return. The arrival of the children could mean her reign would come to an end. She wanted to enchant them with Turkish Delight and make them her slaves.
