life Born 1540 in Tavistock, England He was the oldest of twelve children His father was a preacher to sailors Drake was interested in ships and sailing During his voyage sailed around the world not knowing. Drake died of “bloody flux” in 1596
Exploration He sailed to get treasure for the Queen also to get rich and famous. He explored Chile and Peru in South America Drakes sponsoring country was England Drake achieved stealing a load of treasure from the Spanish and defeating them and claimed the coast of California for the Queen

Encounters with natives While Drakes voyage he stopped in Africa and met natives. Drake did not want to conquer them. Drake had traded for their corn The natives were angry because of all the sickness like small pox and other diseases were passed on to the them. Drake did not want to convert them into Christianity While he was there he raided Portuguese settlements and stole their ships to hold the extra cargo Drake was put in charge of one of the ships the GRACIA DEI “Grace God”
