Eastern Front  The line of the Eastern Front stretched through Russia from the Gulf of Riga into Austria-Hunary.

TERMS:  STALEMATE: A stalemate in war means that there is an impasse. The two sides are equally matched and no one moves forward or backward. A stalemate in war means that there is an impasse. The two sides are equally matched and no one moves forward or backward.

SIGNIFICANCE:  It ended the month long German offensive that started the war.  The counter attack ensured that a quick German victory was impossible.  When the German movement stopped, this created a stalemate and trench warfare.

Taxis of the Marne  With German forces close to a breakthrough against French forces outside Paris, emergency troops were sent to the front by way of taxicabs(600) transporting 6000 men
